Hallo in die Runde.
Hier ist der Datensatz des griech. Dampfers SANTORINI (ex IRENE, ex GARGANO, ex NIKOLAOS, ex PHENARETE) der am 16.10.1943, 23:30 Uhr, in der Bucht Vathi, Kalimnos (s. ital. ,,Calino") von dem griechischen Zerstörer MIAOULIS (ex HMS MODBURY) und dem britischen Zerstörer HMS HURSLEY (ab 02.11.1943 griechischer Zerstörer KRITI) beschossen und schwer beschädigt wurde.

Obwohl das Schiff in den nächsten Tagen an dieser Stelle sank – wurde dort nach dem Krieg vorgefunden und nach 1948 vermutlich abgewrackt – liegt mir keine Eintragung über das 100% Sinken des Schiffes aus den deutschen KTBs vor. Kann jemand helfen?
Im Anhang befindet sich eine Skizze des Angriffs auf die SANTORINI aus der Gefechtsmeldung des Dampfers.

Dimitri, SANTORINI sunk in shallow water at Vathy and for many years her funnel was visible about a meter or two above the surface of the sea.
There is a detailed description of her loss in an article published in the 1950s in the magazine "Naftiki Ellas", but I don't remember exactly when.

Jetzt haben wir die ,,Vita" der SANTORINI vollständig.
Vielen Dank für das Bild des Dampfers. Es wird mit den entsprechenden ,,credits" (die sind ja auf dem Bild vorhanden) an den Datensatz des Schiffes verknüpft.
Eine Frage zur Überschrift:
meiner Kenntnis nach werden die Ex-Namen generell so aufgeführt, daß der erste Name (hier IRENE) ganz am Ende der Aufzählung steht.
Gibt es in Griechenland eine andere Übereinkunft oder war das ein Irrtum?

Hallo Klaus-Günther, so ist es überall auf der Welt und Griechenland ist keine Ausnahme. Das Prinzip ist ,,first in last out". Bei mir war es Faulheit da ich immer die Namenliste von dem Datensatz kopierte und in die Titelei reinsetzte ,,first in first out". Du hast natürlich Recht. Ich werde versuchen die bereits im Forum eingetragenen Ex-namen nach der internationalen Norm zu gliedern.

Regarding the use of GARGANO as a blockship as mentioned in HMA:

a photo from Kephalos at Imvros Island was published which shows the blockships.
I upload (attachment 1) a part of this photo which shows one of the two scuttled ex-Italian steamers, besides some barges.
From documents that Jochen Kruesmann found at TNA the length of the two ex-Italian blockships were: 54,8m and 82m respectively.
From the known Italian steamers purchased by RN for use as blockships, GARGANO and sister ship LUCANO are closer to this length as they were 52.4m long. So it appears that one of GARGANO or LUCANO was scuttled at Imvros.
Also, Italian maritime researcher Giorgio Spazzapan identified the ship in the photo as one of the two sistership.
The condition of the ship suggests that this might be the LUCANO which was scrapped postwar due to the extent of the damage.
It rests to be determined if GARGANO was scuttled at all or if she was kept in reserve.
Attached (no.2) is a photo of SANTORINI (ex-GARGANO)
Ιn the attached photo taken by Konrad Helbig, one can notice the rudder of SANTORINI (red circle) which used as a step in the landing stage of the Pothia-Vathy motor launch.
The wreck was located against the cliff (yellow line) with her funnel visible.
