Ich habe das Buch erworben, um mir einen Überblick über die britischen Marines zu verschaffen. Dieses Buch bietet sich hervorragend dazu an. In dem Buch werden einige Unternehmen der RM genauer beschrieben, mehr Infos gibt es sicherlich in jeweiligen Spezialbüchern (siehe z.B. zu St. Nazaire). Neben den Einsätzen im 2. WK wird auch auf einige Kriegsschauplätze im Kalten Krieg verwiesen. Der Author ist selbst RM gewesen. Natürlich können nicht alle Einsätze bis ins letzte Detail beschrieben werden, doch hat macht der Mix aus Überblick und beispielhafter genauerer Beschreibung der Einsätze das Buch empfehlenswert (Bsp. habe ich oben fett markiert).
Für mich konnte ich einige Infos z.B. zu dem Hilfsschiff "Mashobra" mitnehmen, welches die RM bereits vor dem Krieg benutzt haben und 1940 vor Narvik verloren gegangen ist.
Einen nicht unerheblichen Teil des Buches stellt die organisatorische Entwicklung der RM zu den Commandos wie sie heute eingesetzt werden.
Als Abschluss finde ich die Übersich über die Einheiten gut, neben Großverbänden (wie z.B. die Commandos) werden auch einige kleinere Verbände und Operationen beschrieben (z.B. Landung auf Island & Färöer 1940). Es sind aber kurze Beschreibungen, die wie gesagt, durch weitere Fachliteratur vertieft werden können.
