Hello! I was diving i Norway in the Haugesund area last week. One of the wrecks were supposed to be a German outpost/patrolboat.
It was equipped with a Voith Schneider propulsion system which I have never seen before. Further the exaust was lead out below surface.
The ship frame/rib were in aluminium with wood and a copper sheatening.
Estimated lenght 30..40 meters.
Does any in the group recognize this description?
Please post some info if you can.

Hello Pede
Welcome to the Board, and excuse my bad english
A Photo from the wreck or a drawing can help us!

The werck was laying with the buttom up and in no good condition, so how it would look on the surface I can not say. Depth of the wreck is 37 to 46 meters, but we had very good visibility.
We took a lot of video, so perhaps I can get some pictures from there.

@Pede

I found this:
http://www.voithturbo.de/vt_en_pua_marine_vspropeller.htm
This VSP was build in Minesweeperboats called "Capella-Klass"
Its interesting! I dont know this!
Please let us have a look to the Photos :D

Hej !

I agree with Chrischnix that the best candidate is the German R-boat, as the Allied called it, or Minenraeumboot in German. They had been the German bread and butter minesweepers. Next to minesweeping they were widely used for observation duties, as transport units, as means of communication.
About 300 of them have been build all through the war. And they were heavily in use in Norway.
Michael Emmerich has a sketch on how the topside would have looked:
http://www.german-navy.de/kriegsmarine/ships/minehunter/rboat/tech.html
Ok – not of much use with the poor beast laying upside down but you also get some technikal data there.

May be with 'R-boat' or Minenraeumboot' you could google out a picture of a boat in dock, to get an idea of the hull. The description you give, length and construction does perfectly match a R-Boat.

As well – if you have time on your hands – you could run a search through the Rohwer Hümmelchen at the Württembergische Landesbibliothek, Stuttgart under:
http://www.wlb-stuttgart.de/seekrieg/chronik.htm
If you search month by month for Haugesund, you may find the loss of your boat reported. Usually the Rohwer Hümmelchen is quite precise.

Could that be a match?

on the 12th of March the MRS4 Paris is sunk by a Norwegian MTB out of Haugesund.

Good luck hunting!

This for sure could be the a Minenräumboot of the R 130-150 Series.
I will post some pictures, when I have them from my video.
The wreck is placed approx. 20 nautical miles north of Haugesund.
If any links/contacts to further drawings and pictures of this type is available I would appriciate it.

Attached you find pictures taken from the R-boat. Picture quality is not so good as they are grabbed from a video.

PEDE

Additional pictures of the R-boat.
Is anybody in this forum able to identify the boat or confirm that it could be a boat from the R130..R150 series?
How can I find drawings of the boat?

@Pede
Very good pictures from the wreck!!!

In the book "Jane´s Fighting Ships 1961-62"
I found a picture of the boat M1061, this is an Inshore Minesweeper
called ALGOL.
JFS said the German Navy has 1961 following boates:
Aldebaran ( ex R 131, ex R 91)
Algol ( ex R 148, ex R 99 )
Arkturus ( ex R 151, ex R 128 )
Deneb ( ex R 141, ex R 127 )
Pegasus ( ex R 143, ex R 68 )
Skorpion ( ex R139, ex R 120 )
Wega ( ex R 130, ex R 67 )
UW 4 ( ex R 149, ex R 67 )
UW 4 was a training vessel for the Submarine weapons school.
Displacement: 125 tons
Machinery: 2 MAN diesels 2 Voith-Schneider propellers

The "ATAIR" ( ex R 145, ex R76 ) was taken out of commission in 1960.

@Ufo
Würdest mir jetzt echt ´n Gefallen damit tun :)

Mfg

@Pede
