Some sources indicate that U-455 was attacked by the submarine HMS Upstart off Toulon on 18.02.1944. I have seen a mention that a U-boat apparently on exercises or trials and escorted by M 6001 and M 6003 was indeed attacked but to my knowledge the identity of the U-boat was not given. Anyone can confirm that it was indeed U-455 or was it just a guess?

Many thanks,

Platon

War diary C-in-C French South Coast (Admiral französische Südküste) and war diary 6. Sicherungsflottile confirm only "attack with torpedoes on own uboat". No number is given.

This has been a headache for me for some time! The U-boat was escorted by M 6003 and M 6001 and was carrying out exercises. Unfortunately German documents do not seem to give any precision beyond that. Perhaps U 455 but we cannot know for sure.

Es gab jedenfalls eine Funkmeldung des betr. U-Bootes.
Wo kommt denn diese Information her?
Viele Grüße !

Attached is cover page for Gruppe A. Sorry for the poor quality but I photographed it directly from my microfilm reader as I have a 35mm copy of T1022/3510.
