Thema: U-455 (18.02.1944)

Some sources indicate that U-455 was attacked by the submarine HMS Upstart off Toulon on 18.02.1944. I have seen a mention that a U-boat apparently on exercises or trials and escorted by M 6001 and M 6003 was indeed attacked but to my knowledge the identity of the U-boat was not given. Anyone can confirm that it was indeed U-455 or was it just a guess?

War diary C-in-C French South Coast (Admiral französische Südküste) and war diary 6. Sicherungsflottile confirm only "attack with torpedoes on own uboat". No number is given.

In ASA habe ich mich dafür entschieden, U455 als Ziel zu benennen.

Ich bin nicht der Ansicht, dass alle Darstellungen auf Harmonie getrimmt werden müssen. Im Gegenteil.
Unterschiedliche Darstellungen fordern zu gründlicher Recherche heraus, abgestimmte Darstellungen erwecken den Eindruck, die Nachforschungen zu dem Thema seien erledigt oder "ausgeschöpft". Nach der oben genannten Analyse glaube ich mich auf U455 festlegen zu dürfen -- jedenfalls solange, bis mir Jemand einen begründeten Zweifel an U455 liefert.

This has been a headache for me for some time! The U-boat was escorted by M 6003 and M 6001 and was carrying out exercises. Unfortunately German documents do not seem to give any precision beyond that. Perhaps U 455 but we cannot know for sure.

Es gab jedenfalls eine Funkmeldung des betr. U-Bootes. Der Empfang müsste doch eigentlich beim F.d.U. quittiert worden sein, oder ?
Offenbar war das eigene U-Boot um 15u00 wieder eingelaufen. Die U-Jagd konnte beginnen.
Übrigens finde ich nirgendwo eine Bestätigung, dass M 6001 und M 6003 das U-Boot sicherten. Wo kommt denn diese Information her?
