Hi,
Colleagues,
I found a description of the battle night on October 1/2, 1944, three German destroyers with the American destroyer Gleaves. It is in Russian. In English, it sounds like this:
On the evening of October 1, 1944, the 10th flotilla of TA-24 (corvette captain von Hartzen), TA-29 and TA-32  left Genoa, intending to lay a mine in the San Remo area. There were 76 mines on board the TA-32, and 22 mines on the TA-29. That evening, the American destroyer USS Gleaves was patrolling near San Remo. When it was reported that Allied aircraft were bombing three unknown ships northeast of his position, the destroyer commander, Lieutenant Commander W. Klee, decided to survey the area.
As soon as the German destroyers passed the Empire, at 23:13 their observers spotted a large ship 54 cables to the southwest. Almost simultaneously, USS Gleaves established radar contact. At 23:19, the American destroyer went on a parallel course and opened fire. The first salvo landed 50 meters from the TA-24. The torpedo boats began to maneuver, dodging the cover of the salvoes that fell next to the TA-29. At 23:24 pm, von Hartzen ordered an "all of a sudden" turn to the right, but while performing a maneuver, the TA-29, poorly controlled due to the load of mines, rammed the flagship TA-24. Fortunately for the Germans, the ships managed to disengage and retreat towards Genoa. They returned fire on the American destroyer only at 23:35, and the commander of USS Gleaves decided that German coastal batteries had taken aim at his ship. Four minutes later, when the radar lost the enemy against the background of the rocky coast, USS Gleaves set up a smoke screen and pulled out of the battle. However, the shooting continued until 23:45 pm; the American ship spent 88 127-mm rounds, including eight lighting rounds. German destroyers arrived at the port at 03:15.
The Germans believed they were fighting a French light cruiser. The American commander in his report concluded that he attacked three merchant ships, of which two, while under his fire, exploded and were sunk or seriously damaged.

I would like to know if there is a German description of this battle. How does the American description correspond to the German one?

10th flotilla of TA-24 (corvette captain von Hartzen),
Das war Wirich von Gartzen, der Flottillenchef
Bei falscher Schreibweise der Namen wird es schwierig, Antworten auf Fragen zu finden

There is a typo in the document.

Bei Ausweichmanover TA 29 durch TA 28 gerammt.

Instead of TA 28, read TA 24.
