Hello to all!

At 13:30 (UTC??? LOCAL???) on the 25th March 1942, the greek destroyer Vasilissa Olga attacked against a submarine contact some 50 miles west of Alexandria. Does anyone know whether this could be U-453 which was on patrol at that area these days perhaps? Other candidates are U-97, U-431, U-568 but I believe they were laying further west.

Many thanks!

Darius

Hi,

Duikboot didn´t indicate an attack.
I also found nothing in the KTBs of U 97, U 431, U 453 and U 568 on an attack by escort vessels.

Maybe an italian sub?

A! Thank you! Could you please see for U-652 (later interaction),U-205 although their possibility is even less. Tthe italian submarines on patrol were Platino and Onice but to my understanding they were near Cyrenaika (Platon).

Darius

Checked U 205 - nothing.
No war diary of U 652 in my archive.

You can check yourself in HMA Duikboot:

All known war diaries of german u-boats were evaluated for this database.
There was no attack on U 652 that day. She was attacked early in the morning of the next day, but by HMS Jaguar.

Ι didn't have any idea about this application. Thanks for pointing out.

Well, Jaguar went well underwater by U-652 before being able to mount any attack!

Sorry, that was a misinterpretation by me! :|

In the Duikbook for U-205, I read:

03/26/1942   05u31   U205 RESCHKE Franz-Georg   attacked by escort vessel   in CO92, D HHMS QUEEN OLGA, geen shame   CO92   ADM199 / 1257, EZ 15/7/14

Does this mean that the attack is also logged in the U-205's logbook?
Queen Olga attacked against a contact that time indeed but I don't know if the attack is verified by U-205 as well.

This is strange because if this is the case, then U-652 and U-205 should have been operating at a very close distance between them.

There is also this one:

How is it possible for two friendly submarines to operate in the very same area?
