Hello s3bpilot,

I would read this as " 4./8. Kriegsschiffbaulehrabteilung (U.) "
http://www.ubootarchiv.de/ubootwiki/index.php/8._Kriegsschiffbaulehrabteilung

Unfortunately I cannot provide any details about this unit...  :?

Best regards
Ortwin

:TU:)
Da eine "Abteilung" in der Wehrmachtsorganisationsstruktur einem Bataillon entspricht, wäre
"4./8. Kriegsschiffbaulehrabteilung (U.)" als "4. Kompanie (oder: Inspektion) der 8. Kriegsschiffbaulehrabteilung (U.)" zu lesen

Gruß, Urs

Hi Jerry,

the 4. [company]/8. Kriegschiffbaulehrabteilung (translates as Warship Construction Aquaintance Detachment) was based at Hamburg, being attached to the commercial building yard H.C. Stülcken Sohn. Thisyard was then building U-boats for the Kriegsmarine.

As you have already indicated, the owner of the Wehrpass was at least serving for the aquaintance period on U 710. However, please note that according to his Wehrpass entry his assignment to 4./8.KLA ended on 30 August 1942, while U 710 was commissioned only three (!) days later. I wonder if this was only a clerk's mistake.

Best

Axel
