Hi,

Colleagues,
The English are writing
1-2/7/44 MTB 632 and MTB 650 of the 55th MTB-Flotilla attack a group of boats from the Tenth R Boat Flotilla (Kptlt. Nau) off Fécamp and sink R 180. Afterwards MTB 632 is in another action with minesweepers and out of action.
4/7/44 An action in the Normandy assault area. MTB 632 and MTB 650 intercept five R Boats and four E Boats. Two R Boats are hit by torpedoes. R180 sinks in position 49 46N 000 20E. The Germans turn back for Le Havre. MTB 632 and MTB 650 then intercept and attack two German M Class minesweepers damaging them and forcing them to retire. MTB 632 suffers a fire and MTB 650 is severely damaged and both boats limp back to the anchorage. MTB 650 is subsequently paid off.

In der Nacht vom 1./2.7. greifen vor Fécamp MTB 632 und MTB 650 von der 55. MTB-Flottille eine Gruppe der dt. 10. R-Flottille (Kptlt. Nau) an und versenken R 180. Anschließend wird MTB 632 von anderen ins Gefecht eingreifenden Minensuchern außer Gefecht gesetzt.

Help find out when and how the R 180 sank.

Following DDK II, 198:
R180 was sunk on 02.07.1944 at 02.55 Uhr near Fécamp by MGB (means by gun or depth charges).
Best regards
Thomas

P.S. Following Reynolds (Dog Boats, page 170) it was the attack of the 55th Flotilla with MTB 632 and 650 against 5 R-Boats, 4 E-Boats and later arriving M-Boat between Le Havre and Normandy assault area.

The R-180 hull, which was torn in half, near Fecamp was surveyed by modern divers.
