finnischer Schoner Viljandi

Hallo Forum,

der estnische Schoner Viljandi, gebaut 1917 in Finnland, sank am 16.04.1936, als er im Schlepp durch einen Ruderversager in den Schären vor Västervik auf Grund lief.

Kennt jemand die Viljandi und kann mir mit zusätzlichen Details zum Schiff und seiner Geschichte helfen? Ich kann in meinen Quellen nirgends etwas über dieses Schiff finden. Vielen Dank im Voraus!

Hallo Ralf,
ich habe hier eine Viljandi. Die Daten die Du angegeben hast und die auch im Film gezeigt werden stimmen mit den folgenden überein. Nur als Endschicksal habe ich 1936 abgewrackt, was immer das auch heißen mag. Wurde nur ein Teil des Rumpfes entfernt ?
Möchte Dir aber trotz der Unstimmigkeit die Daten zukommen lassen:

18.. Boris (Das Schiff soll laut Lloyds Register diesen EX-Namengeführt haben, eine Zuordnung zu einen Eigner oder einer Flagge war aber nicht Möglich)

Ship was built by Borgå, Kråko varv, J. Johansson in the town of Porvoo 1917. The original name was Gurli. Length 33.27 m or 34.44 m, gross tonnage 198 tons. The Finnish database states the ship as motorship, but the Estonian as three-masted schooner with Bolinder auxiliary engine giving 6 knots. Most likely still the same ship.
The ship was bought to Estonia 1922 and renamed Viljandi.  In 1923 the ship was a temporary training ship for the Estonian Navy. In 1935 Viljandi was caught in storm near Gotland. Four people were washed overboard and lost. In April 1936 Viljandi was sailing from Visby to Norrköping when it lost rudder in storm. The ship was towed to Västervik, crew and passengers were rescued but the ship lost.

Thank you both - this is interesting as both sources have a lot in common (build in Finnland 1917 at J. Johanssonm Krakö Varv, sold to Estonia 1922, same Name, lost/broken up in 1936), yet there are some distinct differences...

I tend to think that this is the same ship seen from a different perspective... please let me know if you think differently.
