I'm looking for any information regarding Motorshiff ''Johanna'' aus Brake , lost on the Baltic Sea most probably in 1942.Don't have any other details.

hi,

in the merchant ships' losses list in the "Chronik des Seekriegs 1939-1945", there's a JOHANNA lost in 1942.

BUT : that's 1) a prize taken from the Soviet Union and 2) a sailing ship

greetings, Urs

Ralf

Flugzeugangriff

That's the ship!  Hermann Böschen aus Ovelgönne was Kapitän & Owner, his body was found in the sea after ship sank.
Any technical parameters of the motorsegler?

Hi,
lots of good information yet the position of her sinking is still not consistent between the various sources. Thomas has Johanna missing in the North Sea, Harald has her sunk after hitting a mine in the western Baltic Sea.

@ offshore: you mention that the captain's body was found - any reading where exactly that happened?

Thx,
Ralf

The body of Captain and Ordinary seaman were found ''bei Bornholm''. For sure the ship sank on the Baltic Sea. But is it east or west of Bornholm...I don't know. In that area (east of Bornholm)  and that time two other ships were sunk, most probably on luft-minen : Maggie no 23.11.1942 and   Elbing9 on 06.11.1942. Perhaps Johanna , lost on 20.10.1942 is also the  victim of that luft-mines....

Noch etwas zur JOHANNA.

Lt.

Greetings, I am very interested about this Motorshiff, especially in relation with the field laid by submarine L-3.

Where information of this loss has been found? there is some document/war diary about it?
