Hi,

Dear colleagues.
Help determine which ships torpedoed the MTB-620 and -623 in Askvoll on 27 November 1942.
D/S Hertha  damaged, by the Norwegian MTBs MTB-620 and MTB-623 together with the German S/S Harvesthude in Nov.-1942. (R. Jordan says she was sunk north of Bergen Nov. 27-1942. Reported as raised and under repair in Aug.-1943. http://www.warsailors.com/homefleet/shipsh2.html

Chronik des Seekrieges
Am 27.11. torpedieren die norw. bemannten MTB 620 und 623 im Hafen von Askvoll den dt. Dampfer Harvestehude (ex-franz. Ville de Reims, 4638 BRT) und den norw. Dampfer Hertha (1375 BRT), der danach aufgesetzt werden muss (Reynolds, Dog Boats at War).

And here http://www.skipshistorisk.no/Hjem/Visskip/Article/204/TORPA
it is written that another ship received a torpedo hit - D/S Hafnia 2.050 t

Norwegian MTBs claim that they sank two ships.
Which ships were torpedoed?

Admiral Norwegische Westkuste say it was HARVESTEHUDE and HERTHA. 17 UJ-Flottille and SeeKom Bergen agreed.
HAFNIA was light damaged 30.11.42 in Vilnaesfjord when she ram SS JESSICA - both sailed in same convoy to North. So this ship can't beach herself 27.11.42

cam

Hi,

Thanks Igor.

What was the composition of this convoy?

cam

igor

It wasn't convoy - just some ships on outer road.

cam

Hi,

Norwegians write that one ship received one hit, and the other two hits by torpedoes and they were guarded by three escort ships. It's true?

cam

igor

UJ.1704 was escort ship for convoy (HARVESTEUDE, TAUBE). 26.11.42 all ships anchored at Askevold road. In all there was 6 ships but only 1 warship. Both merchantmens received 1 hit, one hit rocks deep in harbour and one was dude.
