Hallo,
http://www.arkiv.dk/vis/2214182
http://www.arkiv.dk/vis/2214183

All the torpedoes in the photos are complete, the only part missing are the warheads.
It's hard to make a presice ID from the photos, but they are 450mm LT's for sure. Most likely F5b (of which there were at least 9 variants).

Hallo,
bei Kriegsende wurde in Kolding 100 "Dackel" gefunden,
Quelle Lt P. M. A.-V.

This makes no sense...
The G7e(TIIId) "Dackel" was an extreme longrange torpedo only known to have been used operationally against the allied amphibious forces outside Normandie (several attacks by S-Boote).

The "Marder III" ("Hai") was similar to the "Dackel" torpedo, the same way as the "Marder II" was similar to the G7e(TII) torpedo, in regards to its main hull-construction. However, only 1 or 2 prototypes of the "Hai" are known to have been made.

100 "Dackel"-torpedoes also sounds quite ridicilous considering the logistics, and whatever the purpose these were to serve (were there suitable S-Boote or barges at hand that could use them?).

From the danish text, it seems to me that some kind of vessel is being described, not a torpedo.

Again the text is meaningless. The G7e(TIIId) "Dackel" was of course based on the G7e torpedo: It was simply a G7(TIII Lut I) with an additional batterychamber, increasing the lenght to over 11 m. Due to the extremely low speed, it was equipped with a special version of the Pi1 pistol - the Pi1d, were the waterflap was removed and replaced by a safety pin which was manually pulled out by a rope prior to firing. Finally, it had a special version of the Lut I with an extreme long initial straight running distance of 36000 m.

The "Dackel" torpedo had a very limited purpose, due to it's construction. It was equipped with a programsteering mechanism (Lut I) that was intended for steering it in random loops in an area with many ships assembled (preferrably at anchor). The long intial distance of 36 000 m of running straight with 5,6 kn would not make it suitable for any real tactical scnearios.

To add a bit to the confusion, the photo showing multiple torpedos from the rear has two types of torpedoes. Several are indeed F5b, but not all of them. At least two are longer in length and the missing caps on all of them help in identification. The F5B did not have such a rounded cap on the tail as the g7 type.
About the other photo in the hall, at the end of the hall, that is Hydra, isn't it? But before Hydra is another type with the damaged hull. Looking at the way it is built the hull looks much more flat.

Roel

No. All are the same torpedoes (although stored in random positions). It's hard to tell exactly which version though (there were 13 versions of the F5b torpedo, but they mostly varied by different internal mechanisms, and could only be identified by the type/model-being stenciled on the topside of the aftsection in red lettering).
As these are Kriegsmarine-torpedoes, I reckon they most likely are F5b(LTIm), but I'm not sure what Luftwaffe-version that was based on and wether they did some changes (I suspect so, as they were not to be dropped from an airplane).

What is a "cap"?

Roeland

Dear Natter,
I am still in doubt about these all being the same, but maybe I am completely wrong. I did a 3D model of the F5B that was in use by the Kriegsmarine. I collected as many photos of this torpedo as I could possibly find. Based on that I thought the round hole in the tail of one of the torpedoes that we see is not an f5B. The hole that is there is much more round then what I could see on any photos of the F5b. I checked also the book on the lufttorpedo by Lauck. This round hole I have not seen it, But I am not an expert. I have read many of your posts on different forums and I know it when someone has more expertise.
With cap, I meant the piece that was used to close up that part of the torpedo. Neither English nor German is my native language, so apologies for being unclear.

Roeland

Counting from the left side, torpedo number 8. The luftwaffe version was different in several ways. It had small rudders on the sides of the torpedo and there where differences in the tail.

Roel

Natter,
Do you maybe know what kind of targeting system was used by the kriegsmarine for the F5B? Thank you in advance for any clue!
