On the evening of 17 Jan. enemy surface Forces attacked convoy V 1806 in quadrant BF 3334. Light coastal batteries were able to participate in the battle. 1 British PT boat was set afire and sunk. 12 prisoners were taken. The convoy arrived in Boulogne, having sustained no losses.
Six M.T.Bs. and M.G.Bs. engaged two enemy trawlers off Cape Gris Nez during the night of the 17th/18th and came under heavy fire. M.T.B. No. 47 is missing and must be presumed lost, and M.T.B. No. 38 suffered damage and casualties.
3 MTB which were supported by 3 MGBs engaged 2 armed trawlers off Gris Nez late this evening. MTB 47 is missing and MTB 38 has casualities and much superficial damage. No damage to the enemy is reported.
At 2015 yesterday Saturday MTB 38, 44 and 47 with MGB 324, 328 and 330 were despatched to investigate an RDF plot of the small vessels poceeding Westwards along enemy coastal route. At 2050 MGBs intercepted enemy off Gris Nez reporting 2 armed trawlers which they engagend for three minutes. At 2121 MTBs made contact and MTB 38 attacked unsuccessfully with one torpedo. All boats came under heavy fire. MTB 47 gas not been seen nor replied to signals since the attack. MTB 38 had one serious and tree slight casualties and much superficial damage. Search by MGB 324 and 330 for MTB 47 is now proceeding and if unsuccessful further search including aircraft will be made at daylight. It was noticed that RDF plot showed two enemy vessels remaining in vicinity of Position of MTB attack for about two hours before they proceeded into Boulogne.(V.A.Dover, 0046A/18).[...]My 0046A. Further search has prove unavailing and MTB 47 must be considered to have been lost in enemy Waters. No Details are available as to the final circumstances of the loss. (V.A.Dover 1349/18).[...]My 0046A and 1349A. Although German broadcast announces MTB 47 sank in flames other MTBs did not observe this. In view of the difficulty of sinking these craft and the fact that enemy vessels remind for about 2 hours on the same Scene of the attack the possibility exists that MTB 47 was salved and taken to Boulogne and the Crew my be Prisoners of War.(V.A.Dover, 2022A/18).
