The wreck has been identified off Tavolara Island, Sardinia, by AIDMEN veteran diver Massimo Bondone. Identification has been made possible by the presence of two chariots still lashed to the submarine's hull, which were intended for a raid on the La Maddalena naval base nearby. The loss, on or about 2 Jan. 1943, was probably due to a minefield laid by the Italian minelayer DURAZZO on 27.9.1941.
