Hi,

I am quite sure it is Töniges.
Schmidt has a "sharper" face, more ear lobs and slanted (left) ears in line with his jaw line.
It is difficult to find profile photos of Töniges. It looks like he has more ear lobs on the boat photo. I think this is a shadow effect with the light from above. To me the part of the ear is identical. Still...

The other proof is the motto "Ran, aber vorsichtig". It is the same as on Töniges S 102 in the black sea photo.

ich würde den markierten Herrn auch eher als Schmidt identifizieren.

Hallo Alo,
ich bin nach wie vor überzeugt, dass auf dem Foto mein Onkel Manfred Schmidt zu sehen ist. Auf dem angehängten Vergleichsfoto ist er allerdings etwa 8 Jahre jünger.

Yes, it is Schmidt.
The photo could then be from the test on 4 May 1942 when Töniges had left for the Black sea and S 29 was a reserve boat. Schmidt had a new boat S 112) but could have been the commander on S 29 just for the test (HMA).

Hi,

That was the last of the S 20, Mirbach and S 29 Mirbach, Schmidt photos.
There are some other photos in the S 20/S 29 Ebay photo album.

Two photos from Norway 1940.

The first shows the S 18 / S 20 crash on 19 April 1940. Mirbach was commander on S 18 at the time. I have the same photo in my S 28 album.
The second photo shows an early boat by a Norwegian gun emplacement. I think it is Mirbach's new boat S 12. Do anyone know the location? It has been given in a forum somewhere but I have lost it.

I was there on a fine sunday 14 days ago. Its at Hagelsund, north, just outside Bergen.
Added a picture taken 14 days ago, also a picture i took as the same date as today, in 2006 
The concrete remains in my pictures is from the Kontrollstation Flatøy, part of Hüst Bergen.

It fit well!

Mirbach with S 12 (and S 10) had "Fjordwache" at Flatöy 5-6 May 1940 (HMA).

It could be that it is S 10. It looks like a Lt. on the after deck. Is this the "unknown S 10 commander" we have looked for before?

8 boxes with airplanes for Norway(engines?)
16 big packages of car tires
1161 iron rods 20*X6*x1cm
24 large packages steelplates
24 tractors
4 boxes airplane parts
13 packages misc.tools
4000 packages of real pig smult(?) In german scmalz ?
Lot of ammunition
Packages used in this  translation might not be correct, its kolli in norwegian. Part of the cargo is later in german papers mentioned as nitrocellulose. Ths ship was not allowed to stay in Bergen harbour with that cargo, was at Stamnes when the german forced arrived i Bergen.
The tractors in this list can also be the Ford trucks mentioned at axisforum. Its a fact that Charles Mc Cormick had a lot of Ford trucks as cargo, those and other cargo was shipped to Stavanger.

Er hatte nach der Havarie S 20 am 15.4. verlassen, hätte S 10 am 18.4. in Kiel übernehmen und dort am 15.5. wieder "abgeben" können ... und er hatte den Dienstgrad Lt.z.S.

Yes, it could be him.
He then had to switch from S 10 to S 21 already on 6 May. There is a photo of S 21 with a "W" marking in the link to the Schnellboot Weserubnung In my last post.
