Angeblich (Foto-Unterschriften) hatte dasSchnellboot S 13 im Jahr 1939 vor Kriegsbeginn zwei Kollisionen
- im März mit dem Kreuzer Königsberg
und/oder
im Juni mit dem Vermessungsschiff (Zielschiff ?) Meteor

Hi,
Is there another S 13 photo apart from this? This photo is from 1938 or 1939 (black "S 13" on white boat, she was grey in 1937). It is summer (white caps) so it is not March 1939. I think Meteor and 14 June could be correct.

Checked the claimed S 1/S 13 in HMA. I think it is S 11 hit by S 12 in Swinemünde (or Stettin?) 25 Sep 1941.

The HMA says S 1 got Seeschaden 10 Sep 1940 in Vlissingen, not being rammed.
Pattersen writes that S 1 stem was worst hit when a swell made S 1 collide with S 13.. This is not what I see on the photo.


I went through the HMA to find a situation better matching the photo.
The S 11 / S 12 hould be 22 Sep., my misstake

Ja ... nur irgendwie scheinen mir Anzug und Haltung der Soldaten und der Überzug der Waffe besser zur Friedenszeit zu passen.

Yes, I thought so as well but some details is pointing to war time.

Schiffmützen in place of Tellermützen
The mast in the background is the late version
Boat number is missing
S 11 took 1 month to fix, S 12 two weeks. Fits the damage on the photo. Is there more damage information in the KTB?
The white work clothes were often used in training, they are far from the front.
It looks like Swinemünde.Will check this some more.

Die Kollision ereignete sich am 25.9. um 1944, also wohl schon nach Sonnenuntergang, aber noch bei "Tageslicht"

Das am Heck/Ruder beschädigte Boot war S 11; Reparatur 2.10.- 12.11. (6 Wochen)

I guess the KTB says S 12 was damaged in the front. Did the collision happen at sea or in Swinemünde harbor? I guess they were finished with the “Tägliche Rottenfahrübungen”.
Would it be possible to tow two boats like in the photo?
I think the background fits Swinemünde quite well. I have a problem to find a good candidate for the old type Schnellboot in the background.

I also found a second photo of S 13 being towed and escorted by 1 SFtl boats (one of S 20, S 22 or S 23)

S 12 konnte mit eigener Kraft zur Werft verlegen; Schaden wohl nicht so bedeutend;
der Bug und Steven war sicher "stabiler" als die Heckplatte

Nicht unbedingt. Die Übungen an den vorangegangenen Tagen gingen bis 21:00 bzw. 22:00

Möglich ja, aber dann würde der Schlepper eher ein Boot an Bb- und ein Boot an Stb-Seite längsseit nehmen

OK, that helped.

The boats were in Swinemünde (not Stettin) when they were training in Stettiner Haff.

The boats are then S 11, S 12 and S 13 in Swinemünde 25 Sep. 1941 training the 5 Sftl.

Found another photo of this incident. Said to be S 11 being hit by Z 27 (possible?). The Schnellboot looks grey and the caps are blue so it is probebly winter 1937/38

Da scheinen 10 Boote (nur Schnellboote ?) zu liegen. Kann man den Ausschnitt vergrößern ?

Also bestimmt nicht Z 27 !
Ich kann auch nicht an eine Kollision mit einem Schiff glauben, eine solche hätte viel größeren Schaden angerichtet ... also wohl von einem anderen S-Boot versehentlich gerammt.

Ich bin mir recht sicher, daß das Foto aus Deinem # 998 (1941 ?) und das Bild 1 aus Deinem # 1001 dasselbe sind (die hellen Reflektionsflächen sind genau gleich)

Beim Bild 2 (1944) meine ich drei Kalottenboote, drei S 18 und zwei S 38 ohne Kalotte erkennen zu können.

Hi,
I have some photos from a Lt Schnebell crew album. It shows (probably) the boats S 20, S 11, S 113, S 95 and S 97. I have a problem identifying a serie showing two typ S 38 boats.

The boats are on a canal. Summer.
Stopping at a signal station? Girls have made pie. Served on the boat(s). The boats were probably there overnight.
Passing/stopping at a ferry station (?) with a lot of dressed up girls. Old guard with a hut, A pilots (?), leaving the boat. The background looks well-kept like a park.

It would fit well with S 113 and S 69 stopping at Borkum 22-24 Aug 1942 (24 was a Sunday), but there is no canal. Ems?
Any ideas anyone?
