Wendler.

The crew is wearing the same uniforms as on the K.W. Kanal photo. Could the Boulogne photo be from the day before?

While both photos indeed come from the same letter, I hesitate to rely on the presumption that photos and letters has been kept in correct order for more than 70 years.

Nicht ganz .. 3-5 Tage vorher  :-D

Auszug für S 82
30.6.- 5.7.43 Verlegungsmarsch (S 81, S 82)
30.6.43 Cherbourg - Boulogne
2.7.43 Boulogne – Hoek van Holland
4.7.43 Hoek van Holland – Den Helder
5.7.43 Den Helder – Vegesack (S 81) bzw. Kiel (S 82)
6.7.43 Verlegen S 82 von Kiel nach Swinemünde
7.7.43 S 82 an 9. SFltl übergeben

Betr. Foto # 3 / S 48

Perfect Urs, I agree. :MG:

Early time line for grandfather 1942:
24 Feb.                Neustrelit, 19. Marine-Ersatzabteilung and 1. Schiffmaschinistenausbildungabteilung
9 May                  S 77 in dienst
21 May-13 July     S 29 lent to 5 S-Ftl for training
10 July                 5 S-Ftl training ended. S 77 in Cherbourg ~15 July
Aug.                     SchnellbootschulFtl. formed.
16 Oct                  Untertürkheim, Dieselmotor training at Deimler Benz with the S-SchulFtl.

I have two photos showing the same panter Wappen as seen on S 29 in Swinemünde. I now think it could be S 77 (or another 5 S-ftl boat) and that they took the Wappen from the first boat that they were training on.

Ok, I got it, S 29 was only training together with 5 S-Ftl.

The 2 S-Ftl had thier new playing card Wappen in 1942. It is not know when they were applied first. There is sean in the "Asse zur See" film where Wrampe is exchanging his old S 108 for the new S 86 (~15 Oct 1942) and both boats has the dimond Wappen. There is then only a window between July-Sep (max). 1942 when the panter Wappen could have been used.
I think the panter boat photos have been taken in Ostende (not absolutly sure). It is raining, not extreamly cool.

Does that fit with S 62?

I think I have found the answer to when the 1 S-SchulFtl was in Oslo. -March 1944

The question is then the "F" boat with the type S 100 Kalotte. The answer is S 109. I think the text says "Als Komendant auf S 109. Überfahrt zum Insel Bornholm in der Ostsee, 1944"

S 109 was then rebuilt after the mine damage with the type S 100 Kalotte!

Recently I noticed the pic of an S-100 boat belonging to 9.S-Bootflottille somewhere on a Dutch channel. I forgot where I found this pic but it was also on ebay some time ago. I wondered about the location of the pic and it seems it was probably taken at the Schiedamse Schie. Apparently the gas containers of the gas works at the Keilehaven (Rotterdam) can be seen in the distance. It was suggested that this particular boat may have been on its way to the shipyard de Hoop which was also situated on the Schiedamse Schie. Perhaps someone knows more about this particular vessel ?

Ich bin anderer Meinung.
Ich denke, das ist das Wappen der 6. S-Flottille http://www.wlb-stuttgart.de/seekrieg/km/sboot/sfl6.htm

Vielen Dank Urs ! For the S-Bootflottille emblems I used Dallies-Labourdette's book as a source so apparently he made a mistake with the emblem of the 9.S-Bootflottille. According to the Frenchman the surrendered S-Boote in Portsmouth also belonged to the 9.S-Bootflottille ......

Also interesting to hear that the photo must have been taken in the spring of 1945. The S-Boot in the pic seems to be of a very late batch in that it had two (safety line ?) stanchions (tripods) on its foredeck, like those present on the "Flossie Ross S-Boot".

Gruss,

There are some more mistakes in JPDL :-D
The insignia given as "8th S-Boote Flotilla" in the lower left on pg 158, shield crowned by an iron Cross, is 9th flottilla's coat of arms

The error being proved by the fact that the 9th flottilla did not have any boats of S 700-type (built in Danzig) ever, the 6th flottilla, the only one with 3 boats of that type, had S 704, S 705 and S 706.

Hallo Urs, I managed to locate a pic from this site  :

http://s-boot.net/buchstaben6sflt.html

It was taken in Den Helder, probably after the capitulation :
