moin,

Hi Urs,

I do not think that another album has been destroyed. I have the photo since the last time the seller sold a copy of it. He is also offering another 4 S-Ftl photo that I also have already.

I think the typ S 30 is S 36 "Sawfish". Link (post 516): http://www.forum-marinearchiv.de/smf/index.php/topic,18105.510.html

Can the 4 S-Ftl photo be from the Channel in winter time, 1941/42? Link: http://www.ebay.de/itm/Norwegen-Kriegsschiff-deutsches-Schnellboot-Maling-schwarzer-Panther-WK-II-/291250326972?pt=Militaria&hash=item43cfdf4dbc

Hi Urs,

Yes it is an old photo. The main problem is the panther on a type S 38 boat in Norway. It must be a 4 S-Ftl boat and they were only in Norway in 1944 with type S 100 boats.

I think it is a 4 S-Ftl boat outside Boulogne in Jan. 1942. The 4 S-Ftl went there on 18 Jan. There was an extreamly cold period in France from 11-27 Jan. 1942 with snow in the whole contry. Lille had -15°C!

The boat could then be one of S 48, S 49, S 50, S 51, S 52, S 64, S 109 or S 110.

The photo shows the 1 S-Ftl on 24 Aug 1940 before Boulogne

Hi,

I had a closer look at the photo. I think there is a "H" letter on the wheel house door. It is then KptLt.

Hi,

Yes, it is very weak and I am not absolutly sure myself.
Helmut Dross did have a "H" marking but diffrent from the HJ. The "H" was larger and wavey.

Here is Dross S 64.

Here is Dross S 64.

Hi,

The "M" for Max looks diffrent. I think this could be his S 49.

Yes, it should be S 63. The photo is said to be S 64 in many books.

Hi,

I would say that S 49 was originaly built without a front 2 cm gun. I have attached two photos showing 4 S-Ftl (without front guns) in Rotterdam atum 1941. The boat with the "Tiger" is S 52. This makes S 63 one of the first boats built with a front gun.

I normaly think that the boats with the high railing on the front were built without the guns.

(The "M" boat in my last post is probebly one of Max Günters later boats, (S 50), S 66 or S 88)
