"Mowe" class
« am: 07 Juni 2010, 17:06:26 »
Hello all,
First I must apologise for my lack of the German language
Does anyone know whether there are any official Records available for German actions in the Channel 1944?
I am wondering whether records exist for the 3 vessels (Mowe's?) that came upon a 3 boat unit of the RN's 55th MTB Flotilla at end of April 1944 (MTB 671 lost in that action)
We have a clear understanding, from British point's of view of the action, but would really like to have an understanding from the German side. We understand that there were only 6 vessels of this class and by 23rd May 1944 only 4 had survived. These may have been part of, or supporting, the 5th Torpedo Boat Flotilla out of Cherburg (April '44) Le Havre (May '44)
Hope that you can assist :MG:
Kind Regards
Ted

Hai

Welcome to FMA.
Maybe this isn't helping very much but look here for the 23/24.04.1944.
The tree vessels were Kondor, Greif and Möwe. The official Type of these Vessels is "Torpedoboot 1923" and they where "Nick"named "Raubvogel Klasse".

Thank you Teddy Suhren
At least we are now aware of their names and now have a proper ID of their class
Best Wishes

Hello Ted!

Your last chance would be the german naval archive in Freiburg (southern Germany).
 --/>/> http://www.bundesarchiv.de/index.html.en
I guess the have the war diaries of the boats and also of the flotilla if they were not destroyed during or at the end of the war.

Most german war diaries have been recorded on photos and these on microfilms after the war.
They can be bought in the United States:

But I am not familiar with searching in the archives and I guess it would not be cheap to buy copies of the war diaries.

But first wait for some days.
Not every member of our forum is every day online.

Maybe you have the chance that someone has at least one war diarie.  :MZ:
