nur zur Vollständigkeit Auszüge aus den WEEKLY RESUME OF THE NAVAL, MILITARY AND AIR SITUATION:

No. 150, 07.-16.07.1942:

Simultaneous air attack drove ships in harbour to sea. A 2,000-ton ammunition ship was hit by naval aircraft and later blown up by the destroyers.
Italian torpedo boats escaping to the westward were engaged with unknown results.

Mersa Matruh was attacked in daylight by Baltimores. Bombs fell on the jetty, on a concentration of M.T. and on a 1,500-ton ship, which was sunk. Shipping in the inlet at El Gazala was bombed by Wellingtons.[...]

No. 151, 16.-23.07.1942:
Zitat[...]The enemy are now making use of Tobruk and Mersa Matruh, as well as Benghazi, for seaborne supplies.
The shipping and harbour at Mersa Matruh were bombarded by H.M.
Destroyers Dulverton, Hurivorth, Eridge and Beaufort on the nights of 17th, 18th and the following night. -
H.M. Cruisers Dido and Euryalus and four destroyers also bombarded
Mersa Matruh on the night of 19th/20th. An E-boat sweep by H.M. Destroyers Dulverton and Aldenham. was carried out and two E-boats were driven off.
The Suez Canal was open to restricted traffic during the week.
Naval Albacores from Alexandria have continued to maintain their
maximum scale of night bombing, the targets attacked include enemy motor transport in various sectors of the battle area and enemy shipping at Mersa Matruh. Spotting for the bombardment by FI.M. Ships of the harbour and shipping at Mersa Matiuih was carried out.

Five night attacks by a total of 180 Wellingtons, 19 Halifax and three
U.S.A. Fortresses, and two daylight attacks by 19 Liberators were made on Tobruk. Two merchant vessels, one of 10,000 tons, were hit and two others and a tanker were set on fire. Large fires were started in the dock area and near a large M.T. concentration. Other Wellingtons laid mines in Tobruk and Mersa Matruh harbours.
In the three weeks ending the 22nd July, about 1,300. tons of bombs were dropped on Tobruk. Liberators, Naval Albacores and U.S.A. Fortresses bombed shipping at Bomba, Bardia and Mersa Matruh.[...]
A small tanker, two schooners and three barges escorted by two aircraft were attacked by Beaufighters off Sidi Barrani. Two barges were set on fire, the tanker was damaged and one of the enemy aircraft was destroyed.
Beauforts made torpedo attacks on a 6,000-ton merchant vessel in Sollum Bay and later off Mersa Matruh, but results were not observed. Near misses were made by a Maryland on two vessels of 3,000 and 6,000 tons north-west of Tobruk, and by a naval Swordfish on an E-boat west of Mersa Matruh.

Many fires were reported including a number of petrol fires. Blenheims effectively bombed tank workshops at Mersa Matruh and at Galal (west, of El Daba).[...]

Ja, wenn es sich, wie ich aus den verschiedenen Texten schließe, um die Sturla handelt.
(womit auch die darauf folgenden Fragen beantwortet wären)

Für mich ist die Sache so "schlüssig" und zwar so, wie in 30.01. - 17:13:22 dargestellt

@Andreas, zum 11.7. heißt es in der brit. Quelle "RAF" und bei Platon "Beauforts" , also doch "RAF"

das obige hatte mich verwirrt. Beauforts flogen nicht fuer den F.A.A. sondern fuer die RAF. Die HMS Beaufort war der Zerstoerer.

Hallo Urs
Aus KTB R-Boote
11.07.42 Luftangriff um 14 Uhr Dampfer "Brook" bekommt treffer in Ladeluke ,BenzinKanister explotieren.
Da das Feuer nicht zu löschen ging. bekommt R-11 Befehl um 20 Uhr mit "Sturla" über Nacht 15 bis 20 sm nördlich auf See zu
kreuzen und am Morgen wieder einzulaufen.
R 10 bekommt um 21 Uhr befehl die "Brook"wegen Feuer zu versenken.
Am 12.07.42 um 0.44 Uhr wird "Sturla" von brit.Zerstörer versenkt.
R-11 Kann sich retten und lauft um 4.30 Uhr in Marsa Matruh ein.
Um 3.30 Uhr lauft R-14 aus Marsa Matruh aus und rettet von "Sturla" 47 Mann.

.. diese begründung für's Auslaufen ist auch einleuchtender :wink:
