Hubertus

Can anyone help Jim.

Hello Hubertus.

I live near Banff, Scotland and work in Duff House ( http://www.duffhouse.org.uk/  )which during WW2 was Prisoner of War Camp number 5 for a period. This is where most of the crew of the U-26 were held captive and where six of them died during an air raid on 22 July 1940.

I'm trying to arrange for a memorial to be built at the House listing the names of the 6 fatalities. There may be several British dead as well, but I haven't been able to access the records so far.

My reason for contacting you is to ask if any of your Forum members might have any information on POW Camp 5 that they are willing to share. Copies of letters, postcards, photographs etc would be very welcome!

I have photographs of the Grave markers for the six men and can send you a copy if you wish. I've also found http://radioalumni.ca/x_MengelbergPaul.htm which might be of interest to you. I haven't been able to contact Paul's son yet.

I'm hoping that the official unveiling of the monument will take place on 22 July 2018 and it would be wonderful if relatives could be traced and were able to attend.

Do you know of any other active POW forums that might be able to assist? Unfortunately I am unable to speak German.

Best wishes

Jim Mackay
There are no roses on a sailor's grave
No lilies on an ocean wave
The only tribute is the seagull's sweeps
And the teardrops that a sweetheart weeps
