Hi,

"S 196" under command of  KKpt Zymalkowski obtained a hit on the bridge of destroyer escort ,,Cattistock", which sat the artillery command centre out of action and killed the CO.

hi,

CO of S 196 at that time was OLtzS dR Rathenow. Zymalkowski was the flottilla's Senior Officer.
Kommandant S 196 war zu dieser Zeit OLtzS dR Rathenow. Zymalkowski war Flottillenchef.

Hi, Darius
KTB is not necessary for each day. I wonder what 6 AFs were in a convoy of Fecamp   in  Dieppe the night of 29/30 August . The KTB 2nd AF-flotilla says that the night 28/29 August AF-101 and -104 were with this flotilla in Dieppe, drowned when the AF-13. However, the AF-101 and -104 from the 8th flotilla and were located in Fecamp!

No.
As already told some posts ago AF 13 sank on 29.07.1944.
Now you ask which AF's took part in the convoy of 29.08.1944.
So it was no problem for AF 101 and AF 104 to take part in both actions (next to AF 100, AF 106, AF 107 and AF 109 in the convoy of 28./29.08.1944).
Gruß, Thorsten

Thank you. I understood.

English document of the battle:

In the Action Report, CINC Portsmouth, Admiral C Little, remarked night of 29/30 August 1944:
"... At 2225, the MTB units had broken down, and were instructed to rejoin having repaired their defects (?), so HMS Retalick, having obtained contact of a convoy of TLCs (Tank Landing Craft), 1 coaster and R-Boats vectored HMS Cattistock to intercept and took station on her.
"Both ships attacked with gunfire at 2235, and HMS Retalick disengaged to continue the plot, while HMS Cattistock reengaged.."

German ships at night 31.8 / 1.9 and 1 / 2.9 of Boulogne broke through the Dover Strait in the North Sea. The war diary SKL said about the attacks MTBs and aircraft. I  is not found in English sources. German sources write about fierce battles, but lost only the AF-70. How did this happen?

cam

Hi,
The battles in the Channel in August and September 1944, several AFs were sunk by torpedoes MTBs. The English torpedo had a contact fuze. As they got into the AF with a recess (Tiefgang) 1.7 m?
