German merchant ranks/ratings

Habe so eine Frage bekommen

I just got a personal message on facebook (copy below) asking for
information regarding accepted terminology within the German merchant
marine for "job titles" (ranks/ratings). Here's the text:

Morgy, you know anybody with information about the German merchant marine?
Looking for rank / job title comparisions between German and either US or
UK. I've found Master, Chief Mate, Chief Engineer, 1st Assistant (they use
UK terminology of 2nd Engineer).

If Andreas, or anyone else, can help with this, please let me know.
